Cashmere Care Guide: How to Wash and Dry Cashmere.

Like a fine wine, our high-quality cashmere only improves with age. To ensure its luxuriously soft texture, and vibrant colouring last for years to come, handle your cashmere like an investment piece with care and follow our guide for how to wash your cashmere properly.

What is the Preferred Method to Wash Cashmere?

Cashmere isn't your average fibre. It exudes luxury in both look and feel, requiring special attention in its care. So, we recommend dry cleaning as the best way to wash cashmere. Why?

Dry cleaning puts your cashmere in the hands of a professional. It’s important to find a dry cleaner with experience handling cashmere. This method can be harsh on the delicate fibres, so you need to trust someone who knows how to work with the fibre.

An experienced dry cleaner will know the correct techniques, and other crucial factors. This allows you to ensure your cashmere receives the gentle care it deserves.

How Often Should I Wash my Cashmere Scarf or Stole?

Cashmere, a delicate woollen fibre, shares the natural benefits of Merino and lambswool, including odour resistance and self-cleaning properties. Odours dissipate quickly when your cashmere gets a chance to air properly. Since washing cashmere weakens the material slightly, utilise this self-cleaning property as much as possible.

Even if you go through an entire season without staining your cashmere, we still recommend dry washing it before storing for another season, to keep it fresh. This eliminates any lingering odours and prepares your cashmere for proper storage with moth deterrents.

With this in mind, we don’t recommend washing your cashmere scarf or stole more than once per season.

How to Dry Cashmere?

Should your cashmere sustain water and get wet, it’s important to know that cashmere is more vulnerable to damage when wet, so drying it properly is crucial. Lay your cashmere out flat on a towel to air dry. Avoid drying it in direct sunlight and the tumble dryer.

Don't wring or twist the garment; this will cause creases, instead, gently squeeze out excess moisture to maintain its shape.

If your cashmere does crease, read our helpful Cashmere Care Guide: How to Iron Cashmere.

Whether you're facing a red wine stain, or simply want to freshen up your stole after it's been worn all season, restoring your cashmere to its pristine condition is achievable with the right approach. Taking care is paramount to avoid damaging its delicate fibres. With these tips in mind, you can ensure your cashmere remains beautiful for years to come.
